My sister and her husband have decided to home educate their daughter {
happy dance, happy dance} and my dear little sis asked me to give her a run down of what I use for 1st grade. I figured I would post it here in case any of you would like to know also.
I've taught 1st grade five times now and the resources I'm about to recommend are my very favorite. In fact, I've been using almost all of them since I started homeschooling.
Learning at Home - First Grade
Ann Ward
I love Ann Ward for the early years. This book has everything you need to teach 1st grade all in one place (using the library as a resource). All of our 1st graders so far have gone through this book and I love it more and more every time I use it.
First Catechism - Teaching Children Bible Truths
We usually start catechizing the children before they start kindergarten, but we continue to work in this book through the elementary years. This little book is wonderful!
Teach Your Child to Read
100 Easy Lessons
Whether you are teaching your child to read in kindergarten or first grade, this is in my opinion, the best book.
Spectrum Phonics
Grade 1
I like to use Spectrum for supplemental workbooks. The Phonics ones are my faves. :)
I group up using that reading book, and I absolutely loved it!
ReplyDeleteHi Hannah!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great book. We love it too. I used it to teach five of our kids to read so far and I plan to use it with Clare in a few years.
It is lovely to hear from you! Tell your sweet mama I said hello. I hope you and your family are doing well. :)
Thanks for the suggestions. I will purchase those materials. Is Amazon the best place to get them? If so, to credit your blog ,do I just click on your Amazon link here on your page?
ReplyDeleteIf you are considering My Father's World you won't need any of these, unless maybe you want to use 100 Easy Lessons to supplement. There is so much good stuff out there. These are just things I've used and loved. If you are ever ordering anything from Amazon and you click on the link in my sidebar to get there, I get credit. :) Thanks for inquiring about that!
DeleteOh, and I can't wait to see your school room! Send pictures!
