I've been using the Explode the Code books for six or seven years. They are really, really good!
I should have included them in the First Grade post.

Just this year I ordered Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I read it with my little girls each day as part of our Bible time. We love it!

(Truth be told you could teach First Grade with just a Bible, a phonics book, and some pencils, paper, and crayons.)
