1 pkg devil's food cake mix (plus ingredients to make cake)
4 squares (1 ounce each) semi sweet chocolate for baking, coarsely chopped
1 jar (12 ounces) caramel ice cream topping, divided
1/2 cup pecan halves
Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Bake 30-35 minutes until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake according to package directions. Carefully invert onto round platter. Place chocolate and half the caramel topping in microwave, uncovered, on HIGH 30 - 60 seconds or until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Carefully spread caramel mixture over cake. Coarsely chop pecans, sprinkle evenly over cake. Drizzle with remaining caramel. Let stand until topping is set. Cut into wedges. Serve with ice cream if desired.
*The night I made this I was out of pecans so that is why you don't see them in the picture. The cake is just as wonderfully delicious with or without them!*
