In honor of Grandparent's Day this coming Sunday I am posting a list written for grandparents by John Van Diest (grandfather of nine).
Love each child equally.
Give gentle hugs and hold hands.
Be good listeners.
Read and tell good stories.
Know basic first aid.
Be supportive of the child's parents.
Look for teachable moments.
Have a cheerful attitude.
Tell the children positive traits you see in them.
Remember birthdays and special occasions.
Initiate fun ideas and activities.
Play board games.
Keep regular contact by visits, phone calls and letters.
Pray regularly.
Spoil a little but not too much.
To all of the grandparents who are investing in the lives of their grandchildren, HAPPY GRANDPARENT'S DAY!
