Barbie Birthday Bash

Do you hear that?  It's perfectly quiet.  Well, except for the faint sound of a basketball outside in the driveway.  I finally have a few minutes to show you the Barbie party.

Our 7 year old gal asked for a Barbie birthday a long time ago.  I thought she might change her wishes but she stuck to it and Barbie it was!  Here's a little bit of what we did.

This was my first ever Barbie cake.  Honestly, it wasn't as difficult as I feared it would be.  I had always heard these could be made using a batter bowl but after assessing the situation I realized that Barbie would be way too tall for that.  I read online of people breaking off Barbie's legs to make the cake but I did not want to do that.  I decided to make two 8 inch round cakes in addition to baking a cake in my batter bowl.  I used two cake mixes (strawberry of course, so they would be pink).  After the cakes cooled I froze them overnight.  The next day I was able to put the icing on easily without any crumbs.  Freezing the cakes before decorating is definitely the way to go.  I stacked all three layers with icing between each one and then covered the outside of the entire thing with a crumb coat.  I piped the rest of the icing on and attempted to give her dress a ruffled look.

We dipped marshmallows in pink sugar and used Barbie picks in those.

I also made chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing.  We had pink lemonade and raspberry ginger ale, an apple and cheese tray, and ice cream (strawberry and birthday cake ice cream).

I set this table up in our kitchen.

One thing I did that worked well was pre-scooping the ice cream.  I had leftover Barbie cupcake liners that I wanted to use.  I decided to scoop the ice cream into the cupcake liners and put them in the freezer until time to eat.  It was simple to put these single servings of ice cream onto a pretty platter and add them to the table.  The girls were then able to help themselves to the ice cream of their choice and there was no waiting in line.  This worked perfectly and I will definitely do that again.

Before the party guests arrived I set up a craft in the dining room.  I had plastic boxes for the girls to decorate with all kinds of jewels and such.  My sweet friend brought over her cricut and the girls were able to put their names on the boxes as well.  This was a fun project.  The boxes can be used for Barbie shoes and accessories,  jewelry, special keepsakes, or pretty much anything else.

Another fun activity we did was a fashion show.  The girls worked in teams.  They traced their bodies on large pieces of paper then designed outfits.  After they were finished designing we had a fashion show.  The girls really liked this and I loved seeing their creativity.

Our birthday girl and her guests had a great time!
