Spring Cleaning Express

I would like to get all of my spring cleaning done before spring has sprung.  Want to join me?  I promise it will be fun!  There are 7 weeks until the first day of spring.  The way I see it, if we do just a little bit each day we can have our homes cleaned and ready to greet springtime with a smile.  I don't know about you, but for me, when spring gets here I am ready to get outside.  I don't want to be inside cleaning.  I want to be outside working in my yard, planting flowers, and playing with the kiddos.

Here is the plan.  Each day (Monday-Friday) I will put up a spring cleaning/organizing assignment.  I will be doing the assignment at my house and if you are doing it at your house I would love to know!  A little bit of work done every day will result in a clean and organized home come springtime.  Don't believe me?  Try it!

Some assignments will take longer than others but none of the jobs will take up your entire day.  Who has an entire day to clean?  These cleaning assignments are meant to be in addition to your regular household responsibilities.  Most of us have diapers to change, meals to cook, baths to give, and laundry to do.  We don't have time to clean all day.  That is why I believe in cutting big jobs (like spring cleaning) into small bites.  Doing a little bit each day won't cause you to neglect your children or experience burn-out.  I feel it is best to do the daily assignment AFTER you are dressed for the day, your laundry is started, and you know what you will be serving for dinner.  It is important to do those things first.  And don't forget your time with the Lord.  A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels!

Spring Cleaning Assignment #1 -  Just TWO drawers.

We will start out with an easy one.  Choose two drawers and clean them out.  These can be drawers in your dresser, your child's dresser, desk drawers in your office, or bathroom drawers, kitchen drawers, or any two drawers you choose.  I am cleaning out two drawers in the island in my kitchen.  Make sure to have containers (boxes, bags) nearby for things you may want to donate or give away.  Take everything out of the drawers, throw away any trash, place anything you want to donate in your donation container and wipe out the inside of the drawer.  Begin placing the contents back in the drawer in an organized fashion.  Keep only what you need and use.  Simplify your belongings as much as you can.  If you haven't worn it, or used it, or needed it, in a year let it go and bless someone else.  When this job is done you will have two neat and clean drawers.  You should be able to easily see and access the contents therein.  If your drawers happen to be desk drawers or drawers holding make-up or jewelry you might consider buying some small organizers to place in the drawer.  Drawers with small things like office supplies or makeup are easier to keep organized if you have compartments for the different items.

Comments are welcome, as always.  I want to know if you are getting on the Spring Cleaning Express with me.  You may comment "done" each day if you want to let it be known you got the assignment finished.  Get on board now so you don't miss out.

Happy Cleaning!
