Relaxed Homeschooling

If I could give only one piece of advice to new homeschooling moms it would be this little word...relax.  I've learned a bit since I started homeschooling 12 years ago and one of the most important things I've learned is simply to relax.  Your children ARE going to learn all they need to learn and with the Lord's help you ARE going to get everything done!

In the early years of our home school I sometimes had the wrong picture of what homeschooling should be.  I found myself trying to replicate a public school classroom in my dining room.  Maybe this was because of my own upbringing in the public school, or a family member's comments about the children not being in "real school" or maybe it was just the feeling of that's how things should be done.  Whatever the reason, I would get so uptight about workbooks and time schedules and "how they do it in a public school" that I developed a wrong picture of home-schooling.  There really is no reason to get stressed out worrying about what students are doing in other schools.  If you liked what the public schools were doing, you probably wouldn't have made the choice to home school to begin with.  Homeschooling is NOT public school in your home.  It is an entirely different way of teaching and learning.

For the next couple of weeks I am going to write a series on Relaxed Homeschooling.  I will write about the how, the when, and the why.  I will also be answering questions I have received.  If you have a question please email it to me at 7morans@comcast.net or if you would like you can leave it in a comment here on the blog.

  1. Hooray! I totally agree! It's been 13 years for me and I've made the same journey. But back when I started, people would tell me what you're saying, and I wouldn't listen! Looking forward to your series.
